Question 42

Residential facilities are considered to be only hotels or also residential hotel, youth hostels or hostels for nautical sport athletes, etc.?

Alternative residential facilities are allowed, in accordance with the urban regulation and the profitability of these function.

Question 43

In the competition plans are not reported any concern regarding buildings’ accessibility for some services such as fire fighters: is the city equipped with safety boats to intervene by sea?

To ensure the safety of the area, as required by the attachment A on page 64, it is foreseen a further pedestrian link, which can also be used by service vehicles and the emergency services. In any case other links are not excluded, always ensuring the passage of the emergency services by sea.

Question 44

The established boards, can include, in the remaining spaces, other graphic information in addition to the information.

As referred to Article 8 of the Competition notice, the competitors may make free use of the remaining spaces.

Question 45

What is the intended use of the Pavilion B? Is it possible to increase the dock of access, foreseen by the project, considering the flow of people related to the new functions?

The Pavilion B should not be modified because it is outside the competition area. The overall competition area will not be anymore a trade fair complex. This use remains only for the Pavilion B. The height of the ship canals, can be modified in some points, always maintaining the overall area of water as indicated in the attachments 7 and 8.

Question 46

What is the future of the trade shows of Genoa (expo, euroflora, salone nautico, natalidea, fiera primavera...)? Where will be placed the related functions? Why the competition does not foresee to enhance instead of weaken the fair activities which are important for the city economy? Do you have already identified a better area for the trade fair?

That is not pertinent to the Competition.

Question 47

Considering the situation of the housing market in Genoa, why does the Competition foresee a huge residential area? Did the competition conduct a market investigation to support this choice? What is the target that we want to attract to the residential area considering the reduced sea view, because of the dimension of the pavilion B, and the restrictions imposed by the canal, the Pavilion B and the wall under Corso Aurelio Saffi?

The project proposals aim at the best possible architectonic quality. This factor will influence the target.

Question 48

How does the competition support the bicycle and pedestrian mobility between Corso Italia and the marina? Is it possible to have a plan with some indications about the bicycle and pedestrian path along the sea?

The bicycle and pedestrian path is foreseen along the new boulevard continuing Corso Marconi, outside the competition area.

Question 49

With reference to the indications of the competition notice on possible architectural landmarks and local overhangs exceeding the maximum outlines indicated in the diagrams and to the question/answer 11.7 published on the competition website, we would like to know if it is possible to exceed with landmarks and local overhangs the maximum outlines indicated in the competition notice for the floors above ground level, including the outer limit of the plan, where possible, respecting the volumes required.

It is possible but only for small modifications.

Question 50

Do we have to consider the road and the link with the Pavilion B by the bridge as a surface street to enter the area around this Pavilion?

The uses expected by the competition for the second bridge are: pedestrian mobility, service vehicles and emergency services passage. Further options are at discretion of the designers.

Question 51

In the financial plan should we include the cost to buy the competition area? If so, how much does it cost?

You mustn’t consider the cost of the site because in this phase it is not required an overall financial plan. You have to prove that: The maximum sum to be applied for the development of the proposals in this Notice is Euro 200,000,000.00 (exclusive of VAT), and excluding project costs, construction management, testing, and security costs.

Since it is possible to modify the planimetric profile established for the navigable canals while maintaining the overall area of water, we wonder if it is possible to modify also the profile of the site delimited with a dashed red line (attachment 7 and 8 ) to optimize the orientation of the buildings and to enhance the drivability.

The planimetric profile established may have only local and small deviations.

Question 53

Is it possible to use as surface road the area in front of the ticket office of the Pavilion S?

Yes it’s possible, only inside the area covered by the competition.

Question 54

Potete confermare il mantenimento dell’attuale viabilità di accesso in prossimità di piazzale Kennedy?

The new street network to access is reported in the Anticipated planimetric-volumetric diagram, for the rest of the roads are not expected any modifications.

Question 55

The price list reported in one of the competition attachment does not consider finishing works, plant design, etc. For this typology of works which are the parameters to calculate the final cost?

Can local architectural landmarks be represented by a single tower? if so, how many floors?

At discretion of the designer as long as the architectural landmarks are “small and local”.

Can we place part of the 20.0000 square meters necessary for parking garages, required by the competition, outside the competition area?

No, you can't.

Can underground parking garages have three underground floors?

Yes, they can, considering the economics aspects.

Question 59

Is it allowed to modify the planimetric profile established for the new basin introduced by the competition?

Yes, it is. See answer 19 and answer 52

Question 60

Is it allowed to modify the planimetric profile or to change the outline and the position of the links established by the competition to connect the Pavilion B with the Palasport?

No, it isn’t. Only small and local deviations are allowed.

Question 61

As a team we are planning make a site visit to the competition area on Saturday October 8th. We saw in the documents that there is a boat show event until October 10. Can you please let us know how we can get permission to enter the site?

As reported in the competition notice, the competition area is still busy the 10th of October for dismantling phases. For this reason, it is necessary to postpone the visit until next week. If you need to visit from inside the Pavilion S and B, you have to arrange and appointment.

Question 62

Should the schemes and diagrams presented on the 6 x A0 boards beside the sections and plans explicitly requested be the same or in part the same as those presented on the 10 x A3 sheets, or the two presentation parts ( A3 booklet, respectively A0 boards) may contain completely different sets of information?

The drawings in A0 must include the minimum content required by the competition, and other optional elements at discretion of the competitor. The boards in A3 can be freely completed in accordance with the competition notice (page 29, article 8).

Question 63

What does the Parodi bridge project (mentioned in DCCeng.pdf document ) refer to? Please elaborate.

The site of Ponte Parodi is under the port authority and it is not covered by the competition.

Question 64

The 20.000 sqm total car parking area is intended as a single built structure with common accesses for all functions and dedicated zones for each of them inside or are there expected separated parking facilities for each main function ? If delivery for hotel, offices etc is to occur through this parking then what type/size of van/truck/lorry should it be designed for?

The car park area (shape, dimension, function,...) is at discretion of the designer.

Question 65

We need to receive an answer to our previous question before the 10th of November to finalize our project. I repeat the question: the pavilion B will still host exhibition activities? If not, what activities can or cannot we consider?

Question 66.1

We have a question about the volumes highlighted in the project sections. Thinking about the level 5 m and the consecutive levels, is it possible to imagine a seamless volume which includes the Pavilion B as reported in the board “Anticipated planimetric-volumetric diagram, on roof level”?

The choice is at discretion of the designer.

Question 66.2

The voids in the section 2, 3, 4 do not match with the section n°1, which shows a continuous volume, and with the roof plan.

The incongruity observed is due to the fact that sections show synthetically only the outlines next to the section line. Anyway it’s better to consider the Anticipated planimetric-volumetric diagram, level 5 m above sea level (attachment 7). This document shows the areas which will have to stay unbuilt around the Pavilion B, different from the building lands.

Question 68

Can the height of the arcades, and of the entrances on the ground floor of the buildings, be 2.50 m to realize 5 residential upper floors?

The competition notice establishes that the height of the rooms on the ground floors, directly accessible from the exterior, must be not less than 3.20 m. The inhabitable zones can be at least 2,40 m height.

Is it possible to modify the planimetric profile of the docks and to plan specific docks and facilities for boat storage, always maintaining the overall area of water and ensuring a different possibility of berthing?
